Grey Hair

This morning I found my first grey hair. It got me thinking about how different cultures treat older people, and how I treat my elders.

In the UK we really don't take good care of the elderly, and I see that in the consumer culture we live in we are now hardwired that newer is better.

I'm guilty of this and I've found myself not appreciating the gifts and experience of older colleagues at both work and church. I've also found myself not respecting my parents.

In other cultures this is just not possible, age and experience is something to cherish and appreciate. Not something to ridicule and ignore.

I think it is very sweet that my wife calls her 'Mommy' everyday, and respects her so deeply.

As I get older, will I be pushed to the side and replaced by a younger model?!
